It was even developed by Nintendo. That's actually the very first Nintendo game developed outside of Japan, by the US branch Nintendo Software Technology.
Slight update, not the very first one released actually... They also developed "Bionic Commando: Elite Forces" for the GBC, released on the 24th of January. RR64 was released three weeks later, on the 14th of February. But development took probably longer for RR64. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bionic_Commando:_Elite_Forces
Ridge Racer was one of my all time favorite arcade racing franchise! Nintendo of America had done a great job in making #RidgeRacer64 for N64. And now it's finally here for the Switch's NSO Expansion Pass!
Some people think it's because this game is actually hard to emulate and/or because the NSO emulator is not as good as the WiiU one. The save state mechanism (that does not exist on WiiU) might be one of the reasons why it's complicated.
