It is largely the same I think. You still might have to do some workarounds of your own for smooth experience, because the game might have problems with certain mouse software or in my experience after extended periods of running, it starts to hitch. Still, definitely worth owning it on GOG.

GOG's game preservation program means that it'll be actively maintained by their team to keep it working on modern operating systems and hardware.

It'll be largely the same as the steam release, but may, in the future you may find this version is easier to get running.

Also, if you install from GoG, you can add it to your steam library and have it be pretty much indistinguishable.

You can get the steam library graphics for the game from SteamGridDB (or you can use Steam ROM Manager to automate that, but that's a bit more in-depth)
