Ok your initial post made it seem like the PROFS had no idea. Makes more sense that the STUDENTS have no idea. Considering TikTok I'd now even more compromised, I would suggest explaining this to them that they should find a source like substack or bsky for ACTUAL news and save TT for dissociation - ThreadSky

Yes I totally agree that undergrads should be reading actual news-- but given that all evidence suggests that they are not, I think we need to work harder to reach them through the platforms they are using. Attacks on science have implications for them too

But you can get decent news from a social media format now, just not on TikTok or meta or twatter. So I would suggest using TikTok to introduce them to bsky and substack for this purpose. Heather Cox Richardson has a really great daily letter. I read it w/ coffee. Current news w/ historical context

But that involves reading, not watching little clips. HRC is my go-to but I have no luck getting student-age friends or coworkers to either read her, or watch her videos ("too long" apparently 😔)

Then hw on earth do they learn enough to get a degree? If they can't read a short article, in the time t takes to eat breakfast cereal, how are they reading required materials and doing lit reviews collecting and reading primary research articles they need to pass their classes? This is a huge issue
