Yeah, having played a couple hours of it, I can immediately see and feel why some people hated Slitterhead and why some vibe with it.

It feels like a mid-to-high budget early PS3 game. There's a certain stiffness, despite some slick attack animations, that hark back to an age of more 'gamey' games.

Voice acting is very limited, and requires a lot of mid-combat subtitle reading. You see a lot of NPC models repeated often. The camera sometimes gets a bit wacky. None of these are deep flaws so much as echoes of game design past.

But it feels like a REALLY COOL and semi-obscure older PS3 game.

A feel some are a bit upset it's not a horror game. Instead, it's a mission-based, horror-themed action game where you're a body-swapping blood ghost hunting a clan of parasitic insect demons.

You build a party of unique psychic demon hunters that you can level up, but bystandarers help in fights.

The casual cruelty exhibited towards the bystanders makes me somewhat glad they look like a bunch of fake plastic dolls. I doubt that's the intention, but the game would be lowkey upsetting if these characters looked like real people before you yeet them off a sky scraper or turn them into a bomb.

But yeah, it's good fun so far. For me. If you don't have any fondness for that older school of game design (especially from Japanese studios of the time) it might just feel like the opposite of a good time for you.

I'd say it's mostly linear (at least so far) but with a lot of room to get creative in fights by switching bodies, taunting taunting with one character, attacking with another, firing projectiles from a third. Swapping is instant (time freezes while you pick) and frequent.

I definitely will pick this up I think when it's on sale. Got so much to play atm. And next February is stacked too. So hopefully in Jan it has a sale. Would love to jam before the insane feb
