With the Game Awards coming up, it really does need to be repeated that corporate approval and rubber-stamping means nothing.
Most of the coolest things you can play this year aren't going to be anywhere near those awards. Even ones that have sold great, like Nine Sols.
Play Nine Sols, BTW.

Id of liked UFO 50 to be in the GOTY category but glad it is at least in something. That game is fucking incredible and I see hardly anyone talk about it! Surprised to see INDIKA there also.
Other notable games missing:
Mouthwashing
1000xResist
Nine Sols
Crow Country
I Am Your Beast
Enjoy what you like, nominations are just a formality corpa thing.
They definitely need their own awards stuff going on.
That said, I'm sure the winners will be glorious.
(I wouldn't expect a Cacowards for an unfinished game though😬)
I also was able to add new features to the Fury's Sky play experience, like non-linear progression and a more flexible weapon system.
Partly because I mainly play multiplayer titles, and also because there are SO MANY SINGLEPLAYER ONES🫠
Sadly we have nothing like that in games
Those people in particular need to play Nine Sols. It's everything they're looking for. Gorgeous, stylish hand-drawn metroidvania, involved combat, souls-like stuff and WHAT a story
HK came out in 2017 and metroidvanias standards drastically evolved.
Hoping its going to be as great as the time we had to wait lol
That's what I tell myself anyway.
Just added it to my Steam wishlist.
I took a gander at the nominees, and was not particularly impressed. Neither am I generally an indie gamer. I desire for there to be AAA titles that are GOOD, that make me WANT to shell out the money.
