Seems the new Death Stranding trailer has brought the 'Kojima is too weird and needs an editor to cut his wackier ideas' crowd.
No, fuck that. He's basically the one guy in the ENTIRE INDUSTRY that gets to be weird at high budgets.
We need more Kojimas. Dozens! Not hammering down the one we have.

We need more guys like Kojima, and even weirder. And with real budget too.
(sorry for the editors comparison, I know the OP was against that)
But I also absolutely loved death stranding so I might be a bit biased.
I'm not the biggest fan of his work, it's not for me, BUT THAT'S FINE!
At least *SOMEONE* is trying something innovative and new and wild, and I'll always back that
Let the weirdness flow, it always leads to the best games.
People complaining about the wrong things.
If people stopped seeing things that are different as "weird" or "wacky", I bet you a lot more people would be open-minded to trying something they've been told they will never enjoy for being too outlandish.
Also the culture war grfiters are crying saying they've lost Kojima when he was never in their camp to begin with.
Biggest issue w/ MGS series was how all the wild stuff would get retconned to Make Sense.
Death Stranding building on insanity much more fun
The problem is that the industry is basically designed to stop weird creative people from getting to that point. It's a 'fix the industry' issue
Corporate waste seems a bigger threat than weird creatives.
but people that want to drag down everyone to 'safe marketable' level be more annoying.
The only reason Death Stranding exists and is even MORE weird is because Kojima had networked over the years.
Death Stranding is *awful* on many, many fronts narratively, world building, and character wise.
I can barely comprehend such a thing. Which is why we need an industry that will elevate sickos instead of hammering them down.
I'm not saying you have to like Kojima's work at all. You can absolutely loathe it. That's fine!
My point is that because the industry is designed to strangle creatives before they can run studios, he's one of a small number (Sam Lake too) around.
A weirdo's identity and vision is vital for art that stays.
He gets the spotlight because he survived.
It is a slow-burn physics-based hiking simulator about an immortal delivery guy with a baby-powered radar system and the ability to exorcise ghosts by pissing on them, set in a surreal future America that looks more like Iceland.
the only thing that really can tell creatives "hey dial it back" is game sales not doing so great
Kojima has done very well for himself and don't need moron at a keyboard #4387502491 to suggest hiring a editor
Concord, a game that existed for two weeks before vanishing from existence along with the entire studio that made it, cost four Death Strandings worth to make.
Sam Lake is another example and honestly we think Nomura and Nojima also deserves that honor given some of the things they have gotten into AAA games.
And STILL people say that Kojima hogged the spotlight.
I don't think he's a bad person by any means but he could absolutely do more to call out his team.
And people still say that Kojima was hogging the spotlight. It's almost as if they're not actually being fair or reasonable in their criticism.
its a huge team effort
However you slice it, that studio is doing stuff that a lot of people like.
And yes, I agree completely with your point here
Now it's just a few months off. Launching in June.
A game which, I will add, runs and plays INFINITELY better emulated than on real hardware. It made the PS3 cry.
Imagine if his next big game gets AAA budget ... oh god Taro unleashed will be lovely.
Rather, it's that Swery isn't either.
