California almond farmers and beekeepers have been shocked to find that up to 70% of the beehives used to pollinate orchards are dead. Experts say it’s the biggest loss of honeybees in 20 years and will be catastrophic for the season.

Anecdotal side note (I live in the heart of almond country): a lot of farmers are letting flowering plants grow between the rows now. 20 years ago it would be all dirt there. Better for the bees and water conservation!
