In my final year at university I would fall asleep to the shipping forecast as a way to unwind from revision. And I’d always imagine how it must feel to hear this forecast out at sea on a stormy night…
Same here. Was listening to BBC world service in France on AM radio (12.x MHz) . Great memories also of the program "Espanoles el la mar" on RTVE .
Giving names to pieces of the ocean is indeed very poetic.
Oh memories, sailing Inner and Outer Hebrides; across the North Sea from Brunsbüttel to Inverness in an 80 year old Brixham trawler - I will definitely be listening to this.

Yes there's a whole series of programmes today to mark the 100th anniversary of the Shipping Forecast first being broadcast on the BBC!
