Counting hibernating Herald (Scoliopteryx libatrix), 49 of them, in a cave in Roslin Glen. Also Cave Spider (Meta menardi) and her silken pearl-shaped egg sac suspended from an overhang. @scotwildlife.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social @britishspiders.bsky.social

A first for me and I had to be in England to see it! Just delighted to have seen it at all, Script Lichen (Graphis scripta s.l.), in woods near the Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol. @britishlichensociety.org.uk

One of my favourite fungi, amongst many. Scarlet Elfcup (Sarcoscypha austriaca), but requires microscopic ID as there is another (Ruby Elfcup) very similar. Bawsinch NR yesterday. @scotwildlife.bsky.social

Dog's Mercury (Mercurialis perennis) just flowering. It is an ancient woodland indicator. Apparently poisonous, something you eat only once. A bit like some fungi ... ! @bsbiscotland.bsky.social

Song Thrush singing away this morning. Wonder if it's the same one I saw in the garden the other day. @bto-gbw.bsky.social @birdinglothian.bsky.social

Probably hybrids (first 2 pics) but I do love these. I love what the Council has done / is doing in The Meadows #Edinburgh @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social @bsbiscotland.bsky.social

Vociferous #Fox activity in the back gardens at 10.35pm last night then heard again in the wee small hours. @bto-gbw.bsky.social

Hoylake’s foreshore, an SAC, holds 2% of the UK’s young sand dunes. Yet, Natural England approved 1.5ha of clearance, endangering globally rare wildlife. I’ve instructed Freeths to challenge this & am raising £1,900 in legal fees. Any support helps! 🌱❤️ gofund.me/2669579c

What a diff a bit of sun makes, and a month. 1st pic 19/03/2022 2nd pic 18/02/2025. Rare garden visitor, normally only see Song Thrush perched on fence or boundary bush/tree or when snowy. @bto-gbw.bsky.social @scottishbirding.bsky.social @birdinglothian.bsky.social @rspbscotland.bsky.social

#ThickTrunkTuesday An English Oak, in woods to the south of Leigh Woods NNR, #Bristol. Is there a #ThickRoot hashtag too?!!

Pair of Carrion Crows taking up residence. Always been around but never usually visited the garden, till now. @bto-gbw.bsky.social @birdinglothian.bsky.social @scottishbirding.bsky.social @rspbscotland.bsky.social

Strange sight for me, coming from a place where Mistletoe is rare, it was growing on every other tree in Bristol and surroundings @bsbibotany.bsky.social @bsbiscotland.bsky.social

Went looking for the Bristol Whitebeam, Sorbus bristoliensis, at Avon Gorge / Leigh Wood. Failed totally but did see Winter Heliotrope, Petasites pyrenaicus, a plant I’m not used to seeing in Scotland. @bsbibotany.bsky.social

@rspbscotland.bsky.social are looking for volunteers to monitor 5 lowland waders species across farmland sites within Cairngorms National Park. This is one of the UK's most important breeding populations of lowland waders. The survey will involve 3 site visits between Apr-Jun: tinyurl.com/yxskvbva

Golden hour #Orca surfacing in South Nesting Bay, Shetland yesterday afternoon. Love the light illuminating the blow and glistening off the body. 🖤🤍 #MarineLife #MarineMammals #CetaceansUK

#ThickTrunkTuesday. St Mary Magdalen Church, Knighton, Leicester (just visiting). Western Red Cedar, Thuja plicata, with bug hotel.

First time I’ve ever seen a Brocken Spectre, never imagined my first would be a plane! BHI-EDI today. @metoffice.bsky.social @bbcweather.bsky.social

#SlimeMould Trichia decipiens, house key laid beside to scale size. #nature #ukwildlife

7.22 and 7.35 this morning. Good morning #Edinburgh @bbcweather.bsky.social

Tactile, smooth, shiny black with hints of red, glistening, sleek, not sure what this was when it was a tree. Reminds of an otter as it surfaces from the river. @scotwildlife.bsky.social @glenisilla.bsky.social

Still in winter song mode. Where does this Robin rank on the Smarties roundness scale? #Edinburgh yesterday. @birdinglothian.bsky.social @rspbscotland.bsky.social
