I was being tongue in cheek but they're effectively the same thing.
There's a large swath of users who dislike brands on social media and want microblogging to be healthier (ignoring obvious pitfalls), without ads or verified accounts or all of the trimmings of a capitalist service.
They're also against this because of the speedrun against queer, NSFW, & kink spaces in the name of capital.
With the people who want it to be non-alt right Twitter they seemingly also fail to realize how many problems Twitter has that BlueSky is blindly walking into, in effort to clone it.
…influenced by their need to generate revenue, and are directly attributable to the features and changes which helped right wing content rise to the top of the platform, as well as direct cause for many of the unhealthy behaviors that developed on that site (e.g dunk-RTs).
you don’t have to look far to see people virulently shitting on the checkmark update. trust me, it’s there, and i won’t be linking it cos i don’t want to pass that misery onto others.
i stopped using bluesky cuz i can’t stand the constant whining, it’s extremely annoying and not filtered out by feeds unlike twitter (cuz they work differently)
the platform itself is amazing and keeps getting better, but oh my god it’s so depressing to read posts or replies here
That’s a problem for all microblogging platforms on a fundamental level for me. But IMHO Twitter suffers from it WAY WAAAAAY worse. But I do think BlueSky is getting worse in that regard. This week in a less than a day, my feed became full of uspol for no fucking reason.
this happens so much on twitter (for me) and that being the main reason why i left that platform personally,
like, i swear everywhere people just whine for no reason at all, then praise it or forget it happened…
even on bsky i see people be negative over stuff and forget abt it in a few minutes..
this is the first I'm hearing of any of this
the most I've seen anybody not like a new feature was like 2 people not liking the video tab because of short-form content, but appreciating it being out of the way and not forced
it’s not anything new, i remember people complaining a ton when twitter introduced restricting replies but now i think most people would agree that’s a good feature. people are more likely to assume the worst case scenario for changes and given X The Everything App i don’t blame them for skepticism
The problem with ex-twitter users is that you can take them out of twitter but you can't take Twitter out of them, so now everytime the platform sneezes or raises an eyebrow it's a problem.
I mean I’m chillin, TL is just cats and art, so miss when my timeline was pizza posting tho.
I mainly stay close to my following and an alternate discovery feed then Bluesky’s default Discovery feed.
that or I just live under a rock (most likely answer)
- People generally dislike change/unfamiliarity
- The visual similarity to the badge from Twitter is probably triggering PTSD-like reactions in some users
- Some perceive the badge as a status symbol, an exclusive club of sorts, that induces undesired behavior in interactions in the network
I think if you had been very active on Twitter over the last 10+ years, you would understand it better. Some people felt Twitter was destroyed with the introduction of the blue check, others when the blue check started having an algorithmic signal, others when blue checks went up for sale, etc.
I know that some people are just afraid that the same sort of bullshit could happen over here. Right verification can feel somewhat arbitrary, it feels like we're at the "Twitter right after verification was introduced" point.
I am optimistic, let's see how it evolves. I hope we can get to the point where users can subscribe to/unsubscribe from specific sources of verification. At least there's already one good advantage over Twitter: there's a setting on the official clients to hide the badges.

The users who want it to be liberal Twitter 2;
And the users who want it to be anti-capitalist Twitter 2.
Features that benefit businesses and brands are despised by the latter.
1. people who want it to be non-alt right twitter
2. people who hate social media and want 2012 style microblogging back and expect bsky to cater to that sort of environment

- Cohost tried the whole anti-cap social network; that ended poorly because no ethical consumption under capitalism; i.e Money.
- Brands were in part a big issue of Twitter pre-downfall, and a lot of Twitter's design choices were directly…

If it's in the Following section then it's pretty straightforward.
I barely see any and if I do I block it.
