I think the sheer scale of the Fed has some chilling effect. The entire metro area from Springfield to nearly Baltimore is dominated by fed agencies and their contractors and hangers on. You have to drive for hours to find a decent population whose paycheck isn't directly tied to the govt.
I know the whole EO thing was never intended to cover someone taking over as monarch, but man, nothing like that exists in any “normal” country, that I am aware of.
It is really shocking that this is even possible, especially that people who have a legitimate authority to be in a place are blocked.
Talked to a pretty 'normal', pretty 'reasonable' D voting American today and his 'plan' was to let Rs screw everything up for 4 years and then win back gov in 2028. It seems like there are many who think the same way without realizing the irrevocable damage that can be done in 4 years.
The American electorate chose to give all of the power of our federal government to the GOP so there is very little that our few elected Democrats can do currently sadly.
I hope that unaffiliated leftists now will be willing to step up.
For example, if just half of the unaffiliated leftists in the USA would choose to finally choose a side and register as Democrats in huge waves that would create a huge media narrative that would cripple the GOP by taking away almost all of their political capital.
I'm not sure if voter registrations alone would be enough, but I do agree that the root of fighting back is building a mass movement with solidarity. Your suggestion could be one way to display the size and solidarity of the pro-democracy coalition, which certainly wouldn't hurt.
I don't think folks in North America realize the power the people have. Maybe because they haven't had to use it. Maybe because they've been indoctrinated to trust the law and politics to save them. Maybe because they're lazy or scared or unaware. I dunno.
What mechanism do you think would allow such a takeover in Canada?
We have emergency measures, but anything like the actions and massive changes in direction would have to go through The House and Senate, both of which can change or prevent something proposed.
I think it would be much harder in a parliamentary system. And I sincerely hope Canadians would be vastly more willing to resist than we're seeing elsewhere.
I hope so too. We are up against the same dividing forces, including the leaders of 2 political parties, one who is evil and another who is waaaay too into showing off his Rolexes while he talks about “the people”.
Yes but most of the public isn't equipped to disseminate the modern, vast information space. People's feeds are so disparate that a single cogent message & subsequent organized action is near impossible.
I dunno. Social media is vastly better as a source of information for many when it comes to the pandemic and genocide. Mainstream media are terrible for those.
Do you mean like this? Serious question because, iirc, you weren’t in support. So is it just that it’s OK to shut things down when it’s a government YOU don’t align with politically doing things YOU don’t approve of?

Lots of “oh, that’s not gonna happen” because Trump wasn’t able to pull this off the first time.
But most people don’t believe that Covid is that dangerous and think I’m ridiculous for still caring. I’m sure you witness that behavior too.

Not too many people have read The Shock Doctrine.

Yes, ppl have power. I cut my teeth in the activism of the 70s. We were very good at building coalitions & harnessing public opinion.
We linked arms over well-articulated common interests, so thst it was difficult to separate us by entreaty or threat.
I hope so too. We are up against the same dividing forces, including the leaders of 2 political parties, one who is evil and another who is waaaay too into showing off his Rolexes while he talks about “the people”.
It is quite scary.
Sending hope and strength to resisting USians.
