Not even flu is "just a flu". It's seasonal and has been circulating for 100 years. And yet, it can and does cause major illness. There is no happy equilibrium with pathogens. Infectious disease minimizers own what is happening.

The “just a flu” excuse has always immediately fallen apart for me. Pre-Covid, I developed ME/CFS after having the flu, it completely changed every aspect of my life in a matter of months. Not to mention flu mortality. Folks who position flu as nbd- and ppl who parrot the line- lose all credibility.
Yeah, I've never understood the "it's *just* the flu" bit: while I wasn't tested for it, I'm pretty sure I had influenza in my early 20s while in Army training. It absolutely knocked me on my butt to the point that I passed out in the waiting room at the base hospital. Influenza is *bad*.
I don't get why so many people can't seem to get that viruses are basically really tiny wolverines that travel in huge numbers. Who's that cavalier about wolverines?!
