This trial was always likely to be controversial, but not helped by council highways errors - speed humps installed on Kings Road were illegally high for the first six months + and failure to warn New Road residents their narrow road was about to become a part of a one way system

The highways figures suggest there's been a sharp drop in average speed on Kings Road from 18mph to 13mph, which would be good, though counter-intuitive if the problem was jams beforehand, and if it's now a smooth operating one-way road?

There was just 1 speed "cushion" before. The cushion allows people on bikes to pass without going over a hump (reason for using), but puts them in the dooring area. But it allows larger vehicles to straddle the feature. With so many SUV type vehicles on the roads now, cushions are hardly noticed.

Looks like the traffic survey data during the trial was collected during the quieter half term period (the previous data showing a much bigger rise in traffic on New Road etc was disregarded by highways staff because it was said to be distorted by roadworks)

The hope in the next trial phase is that blocking the righthand turn down Crescent Road (but with resident exemptions) will cut 'rat-run' traffic, unless they all then turn off Kingston Hill along Queens Road and down New Road. The meeting to discuss the trial and next steps is on 10 December.
