This also makes me think as to why there aren’t protests like this here in PR when we’re going to be some of the most affected by it all because of our reliance on federal funds/food imports.

I saw that a Hands Off protest in SJ had been added to the map yesterday? I hope it has a good turn out. I haven’t seen any media from it yet.

SSA collapse is also a huge concern for me, not just personally, but it looks like ~25% of the island relies on SSA via social security or SSDI.

I saw it on the map too, but that was really the only place I’ve seen anything about it. No news coverage. No people talking about it on socials. Just checked the site again and it says the event already ended but it didn’t have a time.

Yeah SSA is a huge worry. I think it’s closer to a third of PR

Having all that money taken away at once would be a cataclysmic shock to PR on an economic and social level, not to mention every other problem we have.

Definitely wouldn’t be surprised if it was a third. And yeah, it would absolutely be devastating.

Maybe people will see the widespread protests this weekend and start to organize here. I’m not very tuned in but your comment about things happening “over there” I think is probably right.

Best I can come up with is that many people think that the effects of Elon/Trump will remain “over there” and we won’t be touched (false). And that our media ecosystem is just not tuned into what a fucking mess this is because of the former
