Ils vont être rapidement assimilés. Laissez le Québec promouvoir le français. C'est le seul endroit en Amérique du nord où ce n'est pas folklorique. Et le seul, avec le Nunavut, où les locuteurs anglophones ne sont pas majoritaires.
Well, CBC is the Engish-language side of the Cdn national broadcasting service..the French-language side is Radio-Canada (ICI RDI). So for a unilingual broadcast, it's easier to pick the one that fits or go to CPAC ("original language").
Agreed, it was sooo overstimulating hearing French in the background, and then the translators speaking over each other when the candidates interrupted haha
WTF and why? Will Mark Carney increase anything but francophone immigration to Quebec by 12% I don't understand this. I mean whose votes is he angling for? Quebec? Like France? French restaurants? Eh?
Someone explain to me how the post-debate question period was hijacked by a bunch of right-wing Neanderthals and the debate commission did nothing to stop it? That bullshit better not continue tonight, and if it does, Carney better refuse to acknowledge their existence or questions.
It’s wonderful to see how democratic and inclusive you are. I truly feel Canada is in good hands with your leadership. Thank you Prime Minister Mark Carney
Not being from Canada I think I am missing something around this point as to why it would be an important point of debate or what benefit the country will receive from it.
Short answer is that the protection of the French language in provinces where French speakers are a minority is a voting issue for many people outside QC.
Thank you for the explanation. Seems to be kind of a distraction topic from the real issues the country is facing. But I don't live there so my opinion doesn't matter anyway.
There’s a bigger concern with immigration to Canada in terms of making sure that infrastructure etc can support it.The language piece is sort of a sub-issue under “what’s immigration going to look like over the next X years?” It’s not really a standalone issue as in “let’s go find some Francophones”
That’s just part of it since French language rights are constitutionally protected in Canada. (Even the most virulent Maple MAGA eventually will have to contend with both French language rights and Indigenous rights - it’s baked into the constitution.)
I agree. We also need to boost immigration outside of major urban areas as well. That over concentration is part of what is driving the housing crisis since there is not enough available stock to go around driving up prices. We end up with costly, hard to maintain sprawl.
Just that it will help French language grow outside QC. There's plenty of existing French communities outside Qc, so welcoming more people in those communities will help support the need for services, culture, etc.
I know education is provincial but I was looking for a french program for my 4.5 year old and could not find any options nearby (Calgary). How about we make learning French more accessible? I know they learn at school but they would learn so much easier if they were immeresed in it early.
During his campaign, PP rarely ever called Trump out by name while Mark Carney did. Why? Simple. A good percentage of PPs base are Maple MAGAs, and does not want to lose their votes. This shows that Mark Carney is the more preferrable choice for Prime Minister. Vote Liberal!
I also think that Trump pretended to be really disinterested/nonchalant about PP because they know if anti-American sentiment keeps ramping up among the right, it’ll hurt PP. 🤔
Carney should address Poilievre's security clearance issue towards the very end of the final debate, if possible. Take advantage of recency bias. A zinger like that is best saved for a calculated moment.
I agree. We need to start taking in American refugees and turning away American tourists immediately. We also need to implement a total trade embargo on the US once we have extricated our economic interests from theirs.
There are thousands of Canadian nurses working in the U.S., I’d love to see our government promote bringing back our own Canadian educated nurses *first,* then reassess needs.
I’ve been nursing for thirty+ years, working conditions have steadily worsened while successive governments cut funding. Now they are seeing the results of decades of cuts and should hire nurses willing to leave the U.S. Nurses who were educated/trained here would have fewest hurdles to license here.
My son was fortunate enough to do French immersion from kindergarten up to grade 7 in BC and I will forever be thankful that he learned our second language.
Prime Minister already said he expected a wave and we would not take people and let US take their responsibilities.
If you have a valuable high skill job you can probably find a work visa and be a permanent resident, there’s programs for this, family sponsor is another way. ++ if you speak French.
If you set up a system where people can buy their way in you're promoting American rather than Canadian values. We are going to be swarmed with people wishing to immigrate. We need to be careful not to overwhelm our capacity to integrate new people and preserve our current standards.
I think you should broaden the qualifications to anybody who a) has a certain amount of money and b) believes in Canada and wants to contribute to it.
There are loads of Americans who fit that bill - and hate what this place has rotted into.
I appreciate the sentiment and if you love my country I’d let you in with open arms.
They do go first for skills that we need so I would probably look into the job market here and see what skills you have that we need and apply for a job.
You don’t need a university degree just a skill we need.
I was told I could just buy a house anyway and I’d be assigned a taxpayer identification number. Then with that foot in the door I could start wiggling. But it should be more formal than that.
I also speak and write fluent English.
OK, but I feel like "wanting to be there" is a basic requirement for immigration to any country, and you don't need money to meet it. More importantly, consider your original comment, that people with money should be allowed to fast track citizenship here, is very Trumpesque.
I get it but as Shania once said, "That don't impress me much." AKA having money is not the be-all and end-all. What else do you offer? A trade skill, a medical or engineering degree? Obviously, I don't make the rules but there's a process. Maybe don't lead with "But I'm rich!" 🙂 Good luck though.

Speaking both official languages isn't required but it can't hurt & might help. There's more to the process & it takes a while, but if you're really interested take a look at

It is obvious that you care a lot about Canada, the greatest country in the world.

Doctors, scientists, researchers etc. I think some provinces already started to to to recruit these people who lost their jobs.
Doubt we will take many « regular » people tho. Our social services are tight.
We also need to revise their pay and work conditions.
These people see death and disease every day. They need a break sometimes to refresh and nor be forced to work double shifts.
My sister is a nurse and she was coming home crying when she started they overworked the poor girl.
Oui oui oui
My son was fortunate enough to do French immersion from kindergarten up to grade 7 in BC and I will forever be thankful that he learned our second language.
We learn it from the second grade. We do major efforts so everyone is bilingual here.
It’s does go both ways
They want to secluded themselves as special snowflakes?
"Our culture is so so special"
.... they can stay there.
Means they are easier to avoid.

Did I mention money? As in, I would be no drain on the system. I could buy a house.
