What I would love to see is artists saying “screw it. I’m gonna make stuff anyways but I’m gonna get real weird with it!” and maybe embracing physical media (typewriters, paint, not-synthesized musical instruments, etc.)
AI didn’t take away the ability to create. People use AI tools to replace paying illustrators, etc., but you or I or anyone can go make up a silly song or draw a mediocre picture or dance a dance or build something. We don’t have to be good at it to be able to do it. We can do it because it’s fun.
I agree, though, about the economics. It’s really hard to make a living as an artist. And it’s tough to hear “you wrote a poem? So what? ChatGPT can write poems too. I can tell ChatGPT to write me millions of poems.”
But we can still write poems and read them to/with our friends.
