See also: the way we describe most forms of manual labor as “unskilled labor”; the continuing devaluation of the arts, etc.

This is at least part of why so many US states have lawmakers who fight tooth and nail to keep laws that allow minors to marry (that is, that let much older men marry the teenage girls they’re abusing). It’s very closely related to attempts at overturning no-fault divorce, limiting abortion, etc

It's worse than secession. The broligarchs want to destroy the nation-state system that's organized the world for ~400yrs & rule as warlords over corporate empires. This isn't new: the strategy has been perfected in offshore financial centers for ~50yrs. They're just bringing it onshore now. More:

The Ides of March 44 BC is notorious as the day that Roman senators wore pink to protest the actions of Julius Caesar

This was a really fun conversation! @polvalente.social is doing such cool work!

Between the new job (which is going well!) and the state of the world (not so well!), I've been really, really anxious. But on the plus side, over the last few weeks I've channeled that into completing well over 100 NYT crossword puzzles from the backlog.

Jeffrey Matthias & Aidan Obley are discussing how straight forward it is to create code generators in an Elixir application that will allow you to specify every aspect of the code, including application architecture, file paths, test style, which packages to leverage, and more. 👏 #CodeBEAMAmerica

Yes, the high ranking Democrats are in on it. Yes, this was obvious many years ago: sarahkendzior.substack.com/p/ten-articl...

The problem with Democratic Party is that no one takes them seriously because they don’t take themselves seriously. You can’t simultaneously argue Trump is a fascist intent on destroying democracy but your major response is to wear a pink suit to a speech, and expect to be taken seriously.

I can save you the several hours of attending my research workshop (which is fun and you should anyway) with the tl;dr that no one makes decisions based on data, so if you're a designer, or a design researcher, or a policy advocate you need to get good at relationships and stories.

tired of people treating trump like he is anything other than an ego-driven simpleton (i wrote this, this is a piece about why he is nothing more than an ego driven simpleton.)

Vonnegut has a joke about how the only use of semicolons is proving you went to college. I use them because they're fun (and I don't want to go order a new transcript just to prove I went to college). Em dashes are fun too.

Repeat after me: DOGE has already illegally shut down much of the government. DOGE has already illegally shut down much of the government. DOGE has already illegally shut down much of the government. Keep that in mind as Democrats "debate" a continuing resolution "strategy." #ItsAlreadyShutdown

"Sale–leaseback" is how Red Lobster went bankrupt and Russian oligarchs got rich. It is a standard tactic for extracting value and making someone else foot the bill. Hence the Trump–Musk interest.

A simple criterion for evaluating Trump policy actions is "would US adversaries like Putin support this?" and here, as with so many others, the answer is yes.

Sarah Kendzior’s been writing for years about how Donald Trump is a likely Russian asset. No surprise at all that Wlon Musk is as well.

Now that Trump has begun cutting Europe (especially Ukraine) off from intelligence sharing, Europe can dedicate far more energy to figuring out how Russia got Trump to capitulate. Since all his OTHER bribery is in plain sight, I suspect any RU bribery is lurking just below the surface.

Sale of state assets was what created the first generation of Russian oligarchs. They're running plays from a known playbook

This is all about grift and scam. They will offload the buildings at fire sale prices to opaque LLCs owned by the oligarchs and will then rent them back to whatever is left of the government at twice the existing operating cost.

"Leadership is how we have put America first from the time we became a global superpower. Trump and Republicans want to retreat from that leadership not because they want to put “America first,” but because they want to elevate Russia and China to peer status." www.thebulwark.com/p/america-fi...

This was the case with Gamergate, too. It's too cartoonishly evil to be real, but also it's real.

I haven't changed my tone on crypto from day one. This reserve is the Big Scam(tm). I don't argue with y'all. I don't pretend that my decades of academic and lived experience are equal to your 2 second searches and misplaced confidence. I'm not here to make you feel more knowledgeable than you are

Tech overhype signs: 1. There's no concrete, testable definition of what AGI is 2. Yet, it's touted as a magic box that can solve anything 3. The concrete goal it's associated w/ is a financial metric ($100B created for investors) It's like Blockchain all over again! techcrunch.com/2024/12/26/m...

Definitely twee. But also we can find or make joy pretty much wherever we want, which is metal as fuck.

You're plugged in and have heard comparisons of DOGE and Gamergate in passing. I took a deeper dive — but still a short, breezy read — explaining how it goes much deeper than a comparison. Gamergate was whiner boot camp. DOGE is the Loser Invasion. www.salon.com/2025/02/24/w...

Some people will look at this and only see how foolish it is. But what it also is an attempt to set up a blameless, unaccountable arbiter by inserting automation into a “decision making” process. And tbh I wish more people at more news outlets would call that out.

This is an amazing resource! Thanks @flowingdata.com !
