Literally just said the same thing to someone within the last hour.
The people who are the loudest about government spending are usually those who benefit the most from government spending.
So many invisible (or difficult to see) safety rails around us, the disease we never get because it doesn't spread, the glass that doesn't shatter in a wreck, the economic growth that comes from basic science research. I thought Michael Lewis's "The Fifth Risk" did a beautiful job highlighting this.
I see him as a dangerous child. I don't think he developed mentally much past his teens. I agree. I think he does like breaking stuff, taking stuff apart. It's the putting it back together, fixing things so that it benefits regular people that he cannot do. He doesn't care. Zero empathy.
What will be shocking is the number of organizations that are touched or supported go federal aid in some way. Non profits that help children, the old, the hungry, the ill. Be prepared to hear lots of stories of people in need as these systems collapse.
Believe me, every time something gets goofed up for my one Republican relative who said: “I don’t care who wins, they’re all bad, and it doesn’t affect me,” they definitely hear about it
Having little or no central government sounds great to many. But if you’ve ever lived somewhere where that’s the case you find it doesn’t work out very well for most.
It’s always interesting how government becomes most visible when things stop working. People take functioning systems for granted until disruptions force them to see the underlying structures. The question is: will this moment lead to deeper understanding or just temporary outrage? And I work for it
Who do you prefer YOUR tax dollars to be spent on?...I prefer U.S. citizens who fund the Government. ( IE. Public schools, DOT, DOD, SSN, NHS) what do you align with?
With "Regulations" you'll still need regulatory agencies. What are the "Basic regulations" you think would be sufficient to Run a country with over 300 million people?.
We'll see, but I hear this refrain everytime there is a government funding shutdown and I have yet to see any direct impact on my life from a government shutdown.
let's hope what most people find out about the disastrous outcomes is the truth and not "black people did it" (like with the plane crash), "the jews did it" etc
Almost all road projects (new construction, repairs, bridges, etc.) in our communities are funded by mostly federal money. Cut that money out and watch the unemployment and crime go up nationwide.
I'm ashamed to admit it but I think that might be one teensy tiny good thing to come out of all this: that low-no info voters will start to care and actually start voting, if we'll still be doing that.
I’m expecting them to screw up Medicare payments & homes shut down > people have to come pick up grandma. Doubt it would take much. Medicare stops paying for meds and services and all of a sudden liability gets real crazy for those facilities. And/or they just take them to the hospitals. WCGW?
Yep. I believe this is why there was record voter turnout in
2020 - Covid forced everyone to become very aware of how much of our daily lives are impacted by what the government does and who is in office.
Truly. I have been involved in the US government executive branch my entire adult life in my career. People have absolutely taken our very functional system for granted. Yes, there is some corruption, and likely always will be to some extent, but nowhere near what most people tend to believe.
Yep. And as far as the proposed dismantling of the US Dept. of Ed. - wait until the parents of students with special needs (who voted for Dump) realize that the majority of funding comes from the federal govt - not the states like they think.
And those that feel the pain and misery, it's going to be indiscriminate. MAGA will certainly feel it, but so will everyone else. One can only hope that the pain is even worse for all those that voted for Trump and got extra betrayed by him.
After Obama and they started shutting down the govt on a regular, nobody cared what gov was until they started seeing all those Black faces supporting Obama that worked for the government.
We have a major muskrat problem in the US right now and we need all hands on deck. That means we need them.
We get to the other side of this, then we can jump them in the parking lot!
... dogs, tax megachurches out of existence, and end the electoral college and possibly the senate. The supreme Court justice that back him also need to be tried for treason, and Musk and his little boys need to be treated like any other military threat and executed.
And there will be revenge. They caused this. When and if we get control back we need to crush MAGA and the regressives into the dirt and charge every single supporter for treason, label their militia groups (proud boys, kkk, ext) as terrorists and hunt them like...

Then they will blame someone else
Most people have zero clue what federal agencies do

That is, if it isn't already too late.
