My experience on Bluesky so far is like Twitter 10 years ago (and that is a compliment!), and I'm having a similar feeling about posting video on this app. It feels like old TikTok, but I'm very excited to see what apps like @skylight.social bring to the table.

I’m sure it’s a server/capacity thing. As more users come to BlueSky, and they get more funding or figure out a not awful way to monetize, we’ll start seeing more and more features.

I noticed most TikTok videos that are served as HEVC tend to be around 5 to 6mb per minute, so 50mb isn't unreasonable

I'll have to experiment with HEVC. My Tiktok vids for 60 seconds of gaming content are 80-100Mb prior to upload. I have been using H.264/ mp4. I would prefer directly posting the vids here rather than linking to YT.

I'm guessing TikTok, Instagram, and others recompress once you click the post button while Bluesky might not have that setup yet. HEVC tends to be about 30% smaller than AVC at around the same quality.
