These losses are chump change for the tech bros and venture capitalists who got us here in the first place. And sickest thing of all, even though their names are slapped across universities and hospitals, they are too cowardly to step up and fund the difference for fear of upsetting musk/trump.

The salaries for vast majority of JHU faculty are a tiny fraction of what you see here. I wonder if these exceptions are mostly due to clinical work?
Can you point me to your source? I'd like to take a closer look too.

Do these lump med schools and universities? The $102M number for UCSD is around the estimate I saw for just the med school, which only accounts for 58% of NIH awards to UCSD.

I think whoever came up with this "tremendous cost saving measure" seems to have forgotten that the federal budget is $4.3 trillion and the deficit is about 30% of the budget these days or about $1.9 trillion. $4B is 0.14% of the budget. A drop in the bucket...
