Penzeys has “Vanilla Sugar” and just yesterday I ordered some to try it out. Just the concept of vanilla added to sugar and sprinkling it on things has me captivated.
Vanilla & Cinnamon can be doubled, EXCEPT Nutmeg can be poisonous if too much is used. Maybe google about how much nutmeg can be used at one time before becoming toxic, if you want to see for yourself.
Thanks for the heads up about nutmeg toxicity. I'm talking about adding 1.5 tsp of nutmeg instead of 1 tsp nutmeg to an entire pumpkin pie or bread loaf or whatever. Still, it's good to know that higher quantities can cause problems.
You are so welcome! Yes, a toxic dose of nutmeg is only two to three teaspoons & it can cause organ damage & literally kill. However, the consumption of more than 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg at once can still cause dangerous side effects. Usually recommended quantities are about one-quarter teaspoon
I completely agree!! No idea why ppl skimp on those, esp vanilla. I also switched to finely ground sea salt instead of regular table salt. I think it makes a huge difference. 😋
SO... You may recall a week ago I got all excited about making these and made the dough. THEN, I realized I would go to my grave before I could make a dbl recipe without a snazzy 2 tsp scoop! So I popped the dough in the fridge. See more in comments...
Ordered scoop that arrived in mail today. 4 dozen of these little puppies fit on ONE sheet! Tasted great and over an hour later, neither my husband nor I are sick or dead!
Also rolled some in leftover Snickerdoodle cinnamon & sugar. TEENY TINY SNICKERDOODLES ensued!
🤣 I'm in Michigan and used to the stuff, but the older I get, the more crotchety. It dawned on me that I could pack some wafers up for you and make the Mail person slog thru the snow to my door. But I'm just crotchety, not heartless. 😇
Thanks for the recipe, very timely. I just found out Nilla Wafers have been discontinued in Canada and that's why I haven't been able to find them anywhere
