This is important. The job will definitely be hard - in terms of effort, stress, and ideation - but it should also be satisfying (maybe not necessarily "fun", but it could be!). If you aren't getting that satisfaction from the work then there are just so many better ROI careers out there for you.

I explained a challenge to someone in my lab recently & asked if it made sense. They responded "Yes. Well, no. That's ridiculous. But I understand." Sums up so much of academia.
