Honestly I think that whatever we don't like, it always feels like everyone else in fandom does. ('ve given up trying to perform interest in lingerie, for instance, which I think is probably not as ubiquitous as it feels. 😆)
Heh, Youtube just fed me a random TV scene in which the mean girl mocks the new intern, only to discover it's her boss in disguise. It was supposed to be a Satisfying Comeuppance, but all I could see was how green and unprofessional the boss was for prolonging the drama and letting it get personal.
I have questions about what you're reading. I can think of one fic that includes a breach of professional ethics and the character is very distressed by it.
It's just a trope that seems to come up a lot, though I will admit usually by writers that are, uh... Not up to my standards in more ways than one, let's just say
Listen sometimes you read a fic that you know you're not going to like for reasons you can't explain even to yourself and then, surprise, you don't like it!

One of my fave fics contains the line "Lan Wangji is about to commit a heinous ethics violation," but then he DOESN'T and it is both hilarious and very professional of him and I happen to find that professionalism EXTREMELY sexy
