I think Castro was largely fixated on so much because it gave the US a specific target to demonize.
Once you have someone the empire locks onto, it makes sense to let them keep drawing heat.

But Castro instead goes on to express admiration for US workers. Borders were never for us; solidarity is the way!
Cuba now even has queer marriage enshrined in its constitution, which is incredible & something the US should learn from.
