No, the fossilized tree resin called “amber” isn’t related to ambergris, which isn’t a resin. This etymology looks hastily cut together from a longer explanation that presumably did mention the tree resin.
That, and back then, the Middle East was THE trading hub of the world and THE link between Europe and Asia, so a lot of Arabic words got attached to items and concepts that came from completely different places.
