We all collectively owe them an apology. They dug in and out their heads down to build their dream game, haters be damned. The Hello Games developers are what all modern developers should aim to be.

I don't think we owe them an apology. They over promised and under delivered. Once they released and realized it was a massive disappointment, they made it right. We don't owe them an apology for initial criticism but they do deserve praise for what they've done since then.
Don't forget when they got all that hate they disappeared and abandoned there office. This is a real thing you can look it up. They were looking at potential legal trouble and abandoned the office so none could get in contact with them easily
They disappeared for 3 months and when they reemerged, they were announcing the foundation update.
With the sheer amount of stuff that was in that update, I'm inclined to believe they were just ignoring the wrath of the Gamers™️ so they could focus on getting shit done.
It’s definitely not a game for everyone, but I popped the disc into my ps4 last year after it was gifted to me and I had such a blast playing. If you like Minecraft, it’s such a great spiritual successor, but in space!
Should they have called it a full game and not an early access release? Yes. Do I think this was the mismanagement of the release was from a CEO trying to force them to meet a release window, and not the development team? Also yes. So I stand by my apology lol.
Sony is why the over promises happened, he wanted to do interviews explaining some content had to be cut but Sony's contract stated nothing negative that could impact the games release sales can be said.
Classic Sony. This is why I’m so heart broken by the current state of gaming. I have similar problems with Microsoft, because these exact same things are what lead to Fable 2 & 3 being rushed garbage instead of polished diamonds.
hopefully bigger developers understand how valuable that is, too. Having a reputation like that means Light No Fire is gonna have way more consumer trust behind it even if it struggles at launch.
