You are missing the worst part about calling being trans dishonorable for service members and veterans, they can issue amended DD-214s to make it so all trans veterans have dishonorable discharges and we can no longer find work, get our VA disability, our education benefits, or healthcare.

Also it's much easier to give people an OTH (Other Than Honorable) discharge which doesn't carry the same stigma or close as many doors as a DD will but will still cause a lot of problems and eliminate almost all veterans benefits.

Speaking as both a trans veteran (transitioned after serving) and someone who processed DD 214s regularly, the field that gets your characterization of service is exactly that - a characterization of your service. Taking away honorable separations/retirements would backfire. Immensely.

They have the power to change discharges if new info is learned that characterizes a person's past service as dishonorable. They want to cut VA budget.

I've seen the executive order you're referencing, but characterization of service is, from my experience as a personnelman, driven entirely by well-documented instruction and not something that can just be changed on whim. There has to be clear, established authority for characterization and code.
