That's not the Q. The answer is that USA needs the mineral wealth in Ukraine for EV and Tech production. China bought & has stored what it needs & is therefore dominant. Trump wants to get the minerals for free. That's the deal with Russia.

EV mineral resources come from all over the world, Chile - Africa - Australia and even Russia.

Putin's strategy in breaking up countries for his own advantage is evident in Africa - we're back to mineral resources again. And yes, Russia has these, but aren't they more concentrated in Ukraine? There was a strategy in invading Crimea; trade access. Putin brought Trump on board years ago.
