I think this is a red herring actually. Yes, white America needs to fix its heart. But “popular opinion among white americans” is not a magic spell that implements governmental policy. Equality took the shape it did in this country because of violence and structure

This is one of the big things I am thinking about at this moment: how the place where we were is because when it came to equality, white America always went just far enough to feel good about themselves, but never far enough to feel good about other people.
