damn, that press conference lost trump the bedbug vote

Just a quick observation that amid all the turmoil created by the Zelensky meeting, this got completely ignored: A Chinese citizen paid Trump $50 million for the SEC to drop its charges against him.

If I wrote this, you all would say I was taking the bit too far, wouldn't you?

This also applies to the premeditated/improvised question: regardless of how, we all already know the why

There has been a lot of chatter today about Zelenskyy's meeting with Trump, some regarding this moment when White House correspondent Brian Glenn asked if the Ukrainian president plans to wear a suit. I want to address idea in this thread. 🧵

i want to see this energy and not a scintilla less

The attack on DEI shows why liberals should stop arguing about "strategic" use of language forever. DEI stands for three uncontroversial virtues that most every American accepts, and the right still turned it into a vile slur. It doesn't matter what you say - they will poison it because YOU said it.

The People's Union USA, a grassroots group, is calling on Americans to join a national boycott by not shopping for 24 hours on Friday.

“What are you going to do differently” is the thing, imo

Using a dataset of Elon Musk's tweets, I first looked for periods of time longer than 4 hours where no tweets or retweets occurred. We'll call these minimum possible sleep intervals. I then calculated the time between these intervals. The results confirm the CPAC stimulant bender hypothesis.

It’s a good q but let’s not exaggerate the right’s cohesion, not when Mike Johnson is staring down a government default in the House because of freedom caucus fuckery

Pritzker: "We're talking about the death of a constitutional republic. That's what happened in Germany in 1933, 1934. And we're seeing today that we've got an administration in Washington that's ignoring court orders."

This is it. This is the Constitutional crisis: Trump is defying a court order.

This painting of a slug by 18th century Japanese painter Nagasawa Rosetsu is my very favorite thing today

The British press is a pack of sexually-harassing phone-hacking alcoholics high on the smell of their own farts, but the us press could never

I simply cannot fathom why democratic senators seem to think “I opposed every single fucking thing Trump tried to do” is a less-winning argument than “well I opposed some things but like… you can’t oppose *everything* an autocrat does, right?”

*extremely centrist voice* to be clear, i ALSO view federal employees—all employees really—as lazy scum who need constant, hawklike surveillance. Elon’s technique, however,

the fact that problems are systemic and need radical change does not make that a good answer to tell individual people who need help in their individual lives in some way, right now, today. you can't stop someone drowning by deciding to empty the ocean. both speeds are important right now IMO.

I've been saying, you can't play chess if the other side is setting the board on fire. You are no longer playing chess. You're now losing at a new game, arson.

Wish I were one of Elon's kids so I'd never see him again

In light of everything happening, I wrote about how the KKK in the 1920s felt unstoppable, about the people that fought against them anyway, and about how fascism always fails. dansinker.com/posts/202…

If what they eliminate when they eliminate DEI is research on gender/racial equality, then that is what DEI means. It is being defined in practice by those who use it. Pretending that there is any other definition of DEI, that it’d be fine to eliminate, is what is playing on the right’s terms.

I have to think that one factor is that mass protest has literally never worked in living memory. The Iraq War, Occupy, the Women's March, the George Floyd protests -- even "nice" US leaders take protests as a signal to do the opposite, much less Trump.

These motherfuckers doing 97.2% of a Nazi salute, as if half-assing it is going to save their souls from hell

You know how we're not supposed to get "distracted" by certain Trump things, from other Trump things? What if everyone chose to pay attention to the things that seemed most important to them and tried to come up with responses to those things? There are tens of millions of us.

fantasizing about a world where an opposition congress responds to trump’s attempts to usurp legislative power by defunding the entire white house staff

I will vote for the first candidate who tells me they're going to make the biggest government possible. Reacher-sized agencies. Braun Strowman-level social benefits. Government so big it starts belching out National Parks and free healthcare. Chungus State.

“how is it that we hear the loudest yelps for liberty among the drivers of negroes?” -Samuel Johnson No one is more finely attuned to the feel of tyranny than tyrants and those who want to be one.

I am so shocked at how many "progressives" still publish on Substack...Make the switch to @buttondown.com ! It's very easy to use, and the guy who runs it is really receptive to user feedback. I also got better subscriber engagement after switching.

i think it is cool that de facto first consul of the united states is a drug-addled maniac and deadbeat dad with a breeding fetish

I think this is a red herring actually. Yes, white America needs to fix its heart. But “popular opinion among white americans” is not a magic spell that implements governmental policy. Equality took the shape it did in this country because of violence and structure

Ancient critters

Transgender men's invisibility is violent erasure. Sam Nordquist, a 24-year-old transgender man, was tortured for over a month to death, and his slaughter is not being considered a hate crime. The media has gone to disgusting lengths to minimize Sam's transgender identity. Hardly anyone is outraged.

The ones dying in Canada wouldn’t be the only ones: canada would surely take advantage of the long, porous border to conduct ops on US soil. Remember all those bombs in Moscow and randomly exploding Russian infrastructure since the start of the Ukraine conflict? Like that

I've noted some of the procedural things Democrats could be doing in Congress, but this point from @edgeofsports.bsky.social's great piece in the Nation deserves emphasis. This is basic politics, and it's baffling that every Democrat isn't doing it every day. www.thenation.com/article/poli...

This is such a key, key point and barely anyone mentions it. Trump, Vance especially, these guys loathe and despise America.

Feb. 18, 1925: Dock and railroad workers in Mollendo, Peru, declare a general strike after the firing of three workers by British-owned Peruvian Corp., which controls the country's rail network. The workers will be reinstated after a week.

This is not the impediment people think it is. Normal people are surprisingly open to crank nonsense! Give em something to *feel* about

Everything about the metaverse—not just this but since the very beginning—screams “only doing this job to fuck with my idiot boss (and pay rent)”
