Genuinely don't think the Republicans' border crisis! + crime! talking points would have caught on as much if the US had a larger housing supply.

This seems especially an Anglosphere problem. Do other countries w/ backsliding on immigration (Italy, Nordics, &c.) also lack housing?

It certainly also exists in southern Europe, and leads to social unrest.

I would think there is a worldwide underlying cause. Big money investors buying up housing stock may be part of it.

Airbnb contributes here in America, I'm sure, and other big investors. Another barrier seems to be local control + politicians who don't want to make their wealthy constituents mad.

So much work to do to fix things.

Yes. The Netherlands elected a radical-right government basically because of a housing crisis. People believed immigrants were the problem. Sigh
