It’s a huge emergency evacuation. Resources have to be available for 1st responders, the firefighters & others. Pay attention to what to do in an emergency before there is an emergency.

Feels like there is no info anywhere. With the Enshittification of google, twitter, facebook, hard to access local TV, paywalls and Ad-terror everywhere you click! Bsky has the best potential but just not enough active users for a mass situation yet. Ugh

U bring up important point. Most urban and suburban areas have free access to local affiliates of the major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, etc ); many can access broadcast TV freely using a simple antenna. IMO, local TV/media is often critically important in local emergencies for time sensitive info.

As local newspapers and tv channels disappear its gonna get worse. Gonna be tough for some parts of the country when disaster strikes and they turn to Fox, Twitter and facebook and all thats there is talk of a Trans person doing something that made them happy. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

i cannot say how well local LA tv has covered this tho. i've been on KABC-7 all day but i know all the stations have done well b/c they're trained to do that. worth thinking about that in an era of 10,000 mostly useless options (also Bluesky could be like Twitter 2015 for breaking news soon!)

I’ve had KABC on continuously on one device or another in the background for days; never watch tv that much. They are a level above some of the other sources IMO. The way they have mapped out the actual streets/addresses with their live aerial shots is a useful approach.

Saw an interview on local news yesterday with an official from one of the fire agencies in Altadena. He was asked how people in the area can stay informed and he said something like “follow us on socials for the latest information.” Which socials? I missed what agency you are you from! Not helpful

The firefighters are TOO BUSY to answer questions (EVEN their PIOs), so the media often just makes shit. THAT is partly why *I* am here, as I KNOW how to listen to the scanners, and feed important bits to those who want that info.
