i've always found "LLMs have use cases!!" arguments disingenuous. It's like "but the Torment Nexus helps me with my writing". The massive promotion and funding of these things is for bad purposes by bad people and this isn't even slightly secret. But sure, you can use the anthrax bomb as a hammer.
I tend to think that buying into the dystopian side of AI is aiding and abetting the charlatans. There's a reason that Sam Altman keeps saying that "there's some chance AI will kill us all." The mundane reality of the tech is unimpressive enough to kill his valuation and funding.
Honestly, if a writer admits to using LLMs to help them choose words (LOL), then that person should be immediately fired. Sorry, but choosing words is literally the job. This isn't like spellcheck fixing typos.
