I am happy for you & your country to be free of russia & assad. It is exciting to see where this freedom goes. Hopefully the Syrian people can live in peace & have a good future.
I hope the countless thousands can come back to Syria and help rebuild the country. And that stability is established so that a new government will be recognized and aid in rebuilding will happen.
I get the impression that the rebels aren't very nice people. I really hope I am wrong so the Syrian people from all traditions can rebuild and create a peaceful country for all to come back to and prosper.
I know there are Syrian refugees at the Syrian border returning. It'll be mixed. Some will have made lives and families in Europe and have a choice to make.
I had no idea how much joy I would feel about the news that Assad was toppled. If only 500K+ people didn’t have to be killed and almost 20 million Syrians displaced. Bittersweet…
May the future bring peace, justice, and unity in a free Syria. May the names of the heroes who stood up for human rights be remembered and the names of those who paid the ultimate price be honored.
But welcome to sharia law. Burkas are now going to be required. Not that I support a dictator like Assad. but be careful of what you wish for. Check out Afghanistan.
Mommasurf, do you follow Heather Cox Richardson? She is on Substack and her newsletter dated Dec 9 has uplifting reporting on steps Biden is taking right now to deflate ISIS and protect Syrian people.
Yes. I share your concerns. And I am fearful that next US administration might collude with Putin to get Assad back in power. Feel/hope all good things happening right now must accelerate to withstand shaky future!
Happy to see Asad go and more than happy if you're able to return to Syria to live your life in peace and security but if that's going to happen the west has to act fast to support the new government and help them rebuild the country.
All the people who are belly-aching migration should be informed that the war in Syria was one of the primary drivers of migration due to people trying to escape the conflict and so by helping Syria to rebuild they will be addressing the problem that fills their every waking hour for many years
A ceasefire in Syria can be effectively implemented by establishing a UN-monitored buffer zone, freezing military positions, and engaging all parties, including the government, opposition, and extremist groups, in a negotiated, phased, and verifiable de-escalation process.
A high-level travel warning is issued, advising citizens of all countries to exercise extreme caution, avoid all travel to Syria, and for those already in Syria, to depart immediately due to the high risk of violence, kidnapping, and armed conflict.
Syrians must form a unified, inclusive, and representative transitional council to establish interim governance, maintain security, and facilitate humanitarian aid..Syria is very vulnerable to disruptive insurgent forces now
That’s powerful. Stripping the 'refugee' label doesn’t erase your journey, it honors who you are, not just where you’ve been. Your identity is yours to define, and 'just Syrian' speaks volumes!
I'm not crying, you are... all the best to you and all Syrians in the days to come, a lot of hard but rewarding work is still ahead of you and I can't wait to see more joy in faces of your people as it gets done 💙
That’s the right attitude, and not Syrian Muslim, Syrian Druz, Syrian Christian, Syrian whatever!Just Syrian-one nation, one people regardless of sect or religion! Keep religion out of govt! Practice religion at home, in mosques, in churches in synagogues, not in govt!!
It is so crazy that Israel’s war against Iran’s Hamas and Hezbollah has helped Syria become free of Assad. Law of unexpected consequences. Let’s hope Ukraine will be freed of Russia too.
I doubt iSSraels genocide has much to do with, Ruzzia was holding Assad in power and now with Ruzzia bogged down in a losing war with Ukraine they can no longer hold Syria.
I have been telling my 16 yr old the saying the enemy of my enemy is my friend. There's way more behind this than what we know and see. My concern is what moves the Russians make.
It's pretty obvious that Russia is losing a lot of resources (both in terms of manpower and military hardware) to gain very little terrain in Ukraine. Let's see how long they can sustain this. They didn't abandon Syria for no reason.
As we just saw, dictatorships can crumble very quickly.

I'm so happy for you and your people.
You still have many challenges ahead, but at least Assad is not one of them now.
Look up Clean Break Strategy
Don’t even think think this was freedom or democracy
Why judge? Why cast dark shadows? You are a spectator, not one who experienced all the history & now this amazing triumph.
Let it be enjoyed. Allow their emotions to be untied & free. Stand with them as they celebrate.
HOPE FOR THE BETTER FUTURE FOR SYRIA
assad relied on security from russia, and russia is now too weak to help.
As we just saw, dictatorships can crumble very quickly.
So happy for you.
Love & light from America.
