There are now two confirmed deaths in a measles outbreak that has spread from West Texas across the border into New Mexico. And infectious disease doctors are concerned RFK Jr's response is missing the mark.

NPR’s headlines makes me think of a reporter standing inside a house that is completely engulfed in flames with “There seems to be a lot of smoke and the temperature appears to be on the rise, but that is all yet to be confirmed”.
Wow a man with no medical or scientific background doesn’t know how to handle diseases?!? Amazing! Doc here and frankly we are all enraged at RFK. Missing the mark is doctor speak for flaming idiot.
Why does this shitty written article not mention that the measles outbreak is mainly a small close knit Mennonite community. Mennonites (old ways) don't believe in vaccinations.
Old RN here. If a woman can be charged for murder is she had an abortion. Then the parents of measles children should also be charged for both neglect and murder.
💯 under the scenario you are relating, with both gender of parent responsible, and any underlying conditions which prevent vaccination accounted for: child abuse resulting in death would be appropriate.
When you're sick, you often need some comfort. If you become sick, perhaps seek comfort at your local evengelical (Republican dominated, highly political, ....) church, say during heavy atttendance.
are they "concerned" or as experts do these doctors know for a fact that he is sending children to their death bed? This weak sauce reporting is helping spread their misinformation and people are dying
That’s Trump’s whole point. To make sure We The People aren’t educated enough to protect ourselves from those dangerous so will fall ill & parish. It’s how he has planned on SAVING MONEY; not lives. He needs that money to PAY BACK PUTIN to keep him silent from releasing the blackmailing information.
“Doctors are *concerned* RFKJ’s response is missing the mark”?? Are doctors “concerned” that massive heart attacks can lead to death? Are doctors “concerned” that not wearing seatbelts increases traffic deaths? FFS, seriously?
"Doctors 'worry' RFK is sending the wrong message???" He's a straight up, fucking lunatic and an imbecile. In lockstep with the NRA, the GOP proves once again they don't give a fuck about dead/dying children or public safety. 🖕🏻🖕🏻
Wrong message? Missing the mark? Ya think? RFK JR. will be responsible for people’s deaths most of them children who have no choice. People who spread false information are responsible for the consequences. “You can’t lie and shout “Fire!” cause a stampede and then just walk away.
Concerned?!?! This is administrative murder. Since Roe was reversed, & the take over of health by idiots, people are gonna die because the GOP is quite literally killing them with policy.
Did you learn nothing from the pandemic? Anti vaxers aren’t going to get vaxed. They don’t give a shit about people with “compromised immune systems.” The second best solution is for there to be fewer anti vaxers. Darwinism in action. #realpainforMAGAts
Do you not understand English? Have less reading comprehension than a 2nd grader? YOU said its just anitvaxers dying. No, its not ,nutjob. It's people with compromised immune systems dying as well, it's cancer patients/survivors.
LOL. How to say you didn’t read the article without saying you didn’t read the article.
2 people dead. Both unvaccinated. Think on that as long as it takes. Could be a while.
Sounds like parents should be getting angry at the parents who don’t vaccinate then. I got my vaccines and I live in WA. Not gonna be able to fix the stupid in Texas.
A known heroine addict with zero experience is dictating what happens to health in America. Oddly, this nincompoop singlehandedly has no idea what he's doing. I've never piloted a plane, can I? It might be easy, right? Seems like this is the direction we are headed. No experience is necessary.
DEI is terrible because "hiring decisions are not based on merit"
Instead the admin seems to think they must be based on political loyalty and money above qualification. Seems that merit has taken on a new meaning.
Do better. "With deaths from measles in unvaccinated counties, infectious disease doctors insist RFKjr do more to encourage vaccinations"
Just an idea.
It’s time for a little anger, outrage, and disgust.
I mean….we thought measles was eradicated from the US (at least). Now 2 have died and we have countless cases across the country while RFK is pushing cod liver oil.
"Missing the mark" you say?? How quaint. Your standards have gone straight into the shitter. How about saying RFK, Jr.'s position is to spew nonsense like taking cod liver oil beats back the measles virus? Which will undoubtedly kill people who act on that message and decline to get vaccinated.
In 1963, I survived a severe measles case.
Diagnosed at a distance & isolated in a dark room for ~ month. The youngest of a large family in Appalachians, we had no car, did no traveling - highly contagious & it spread. My kids got their MMRs for them & others. You?
Sending the wrong message?? You think a brain eating worm heroin addict is gonna send the right message or do the right thing 🙄😂😂😂 you people are idiots 🥂
Watch this Video and Repost this on every platform. Every American should be there for our country. Be an Al Green! SHOW UP!! America needs you!! If you have to, sleep in your car or camp out. Carpool. Get there!! https://youtu.be/B3ct1ckEhZs?...
How about you put the doctors’ message in the headline, which is vaccination is key. Why are you hiding it down in the article? Why are you both-siding this problem? Maria Godoy, you are complicit.
It’s pretty far north of Gaines County, but when my brother-in-law took over the Department of Agriculture office in Dallam County, he found a bumper sticker in his desk drawer on day one. “ If you like Russia, you’re going to love, Dalhart, Texas.”
"Mentions of cod liver oil and vitamins [are] just distracting people away from what the single message should be, which is to increase the vaccination rate"
Look. This what Texas prefers…they believe, incorrectly, that to immunize against measles you need mass outbreaks. Sadly, this will kill people who never had the choice to be safely inoculated. I was vaccinated for MMR again 20 years ago. At 40, my original vax was gone. If you’re an adult, re-vax!
'Missing the mark'. 'Sending the wrong message'. JFC NPR. This is the same kind of language that the MSM used/is using that helped put this 'admin' in power and understates the crisis we're in.
Don't worry, trump is in charge so something should be happening "in April, with the heat-- as the heat comes in", it should "disappear" "like a miracle".
#1: Proper grammar does not allow room for the use of the word “and” to start a sentence.
#2: Can you tone the bias down just a little? At least make it less obvious that you’re obviously anti-Trump?
AcTuAlLy there is nothing gramatically incorrect about starting a sentence with "And." And it's been done by the AP style/grammar leadership for 75 years.
Technically, you are wrong because the AP style book supercedes your cute elementary grammar lessons. Journalists have different rules. And you're wrong.
That’s a wild take. If anything, journalism requires more strict grammar because of its professional setting. What’s more wild is you arguing tooth and nail with a banana about grammar on a leftist social media app. Are you ok?
The banana troll thinks it's wild that they are not the arbitration of grammar. You're right about that, though. I should know better than to engage with my lessers.
You’re arguing with a banana about grammar on Bluesky. Shouldn’t you be like leading the resistance or something? Oh wait right you don’t take fascism seriously.
Do your job @npr.org r and look at all these lies and disinformation he spreads clearly demonstrating he doesn't understand his job or how to keep Americans safe
Why are we being so soft on these liars? Just say he has no medical background and don't listen to any words that come out of his mouth. We get the drill...chaos and misinformation and death.
His response is 100% on brand for this administration. Whatever a sane, measured, or appropriate response looks like, these guys will do the opposite at every single opportunity. Burning everything down as crudely as possible is the point.
One story half way down the page on https://msnbc.it does mention that it's now in 9 states & Counting it doesn't mention that RFK is n California hiking.. pushing cod oil & vitamin A quite vocally..& Softly quietly encouraging parents 2 make a personal choice about getting vaccine propaganda & censorship
Sigh! We use the phrase in education, but its context rests in being flexible enough in one's teaching to bend down in order to uplift & inform others -- not pander to the lowest common denominator.
I’ve noticed a tone difference in NPR’s reporting since the election and it’s making me really mad. They seem to be skirting the issues and being ‘careful’ not to push back. I dunno… maybe it’s just me.
It’s so lame- I thought (hoped) they were above, or stronger than this. Makes me mad to see them cave. I didn’t realize the Koch’s were a sponsor back then.
Most news outlets are right now. This Administration has made it clear they are not afraid to take severe retribution against political opponents, and they don’t fear the courts.
Just today State News (Fox) called Democrats “lame” and “idiots” ON LIVE TV.
Now that’s the news Trump likes to see.
This is far too kind to RFK Jr.’s total lack of expertise. He is not a healthcare professional, and the medical community almost unanimously disagrees with his anti-science views.
Giving his dangerous views any credibility is a disservice to your readers. You could just say “he’s a quack.”

Folks might be scared of the testing sites.
That “measles testing” sign looks like a prop from Texas Chainsaw Massacre…
Wtf is that?
His active anti-science, anti-vaccination stance?
Jfc, npr.
REPORT THE FACTS, NOT SOME MEALYMOUTH BULLSHIT.
Excluding those types of things is mis or dis information.
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is anti-vax.
That is why!
People are dying unnecessarily!
So stupid.
What a shame on him!
(Yes this is sarcasm)
Few would hire his raggedy ass.
This POS is now who advises and regulates Americas health.
Huge understatement, RFK jr should have resigned on Monday!!! Every elected official D and R should insist on his resignation now!
Talk about understatement 😆😆
😉

You've got to be kidding, NPR?

Just an idea.

He’s literally fiddling while Rome burns.
Outrage! We need damn outrage!

Doctors were concerned his response was missing the mark then too...........
Just FOLLOW YOUR DOCTOR's ORDERS, they know better than you!!!
The parents need to be charged with negligence and child endangerment.
https://youtu.be/B3ct1ckEhZs?...
They're not concerned that RFK Jr is bad at darts. Doctors are concerned that he is giving advice and taking actions that will kill many more people.

#2: Can you tone the bias down just a little? At least make it less obvious that you’re obviously anti-Trump?
Let me know when you have one.
Is there a reason you're so defensive?
That and Polio!
His response isn't missing the mark. It is deadly. It doesn't follow established science and he's frequently wrong.

Trump and Republicans don’t want a real response based on the quack they voted in.
This is obvious sabotage of American public health. But please, continue covering for their evil agenda.
How about just keeping it simple and say, **RFK is sending the WRONG MESSAGE**! Why is that so difficult?
Media on its knees behaving like scared dimwits.
I swear, Trump's got the whole place losing their minds.
Just today State News (Fox) called Democrats “lame” and “idiots” ON LIVE TV.
