I have frequent planned power outages due to fire risk & an induction cooktop. On those days we use our grill to cook or the small appliances that we can power with our generator (battery backup is on the wish list.) A camp stove is also a great option during power outages.

There are models that have a battery which can charge on off peak times, and power other appliances during an outage.

There are a few hybrid models available. We can also just set our induction hob on top of the old stove's burners. My backup for power outage is my propane grill.

Rolling blackouts & whimsical electrical companies charging prime rates, natural gas is hands down something I will fight tooth and nail to keep. I like having eco alternatives, electrical stoves smell, terrible to clean, and slow at heating. Have used them. Hate them, just like blinding LED bulbs.

True— it just seems like a really odd thing to be defensive of. I cooked on gas for 35 years before switching to induction and I won’t go back. It is fast, easy to control, and doesn’t spew toxic chemicals into my home.

Electric and induction stoves have no way to emit odors unless you spill on them. Gas stoves emit toxic fumes into your kitchen. My induction hob has a tempered glass top, nothing is easier to clean. You are left with no excuses.
You have not learned to shop for LED bulbs correctly.

Also, early led bulbs DID suck. I’m with you there - modern ones are amazing. I just picked up a cheap six pack at Costco of bulbs where there’s a switch right on them to change the color temperature and they don’t flicker at all. So good! Especially in the summer. Cheap *and* cheap to run!

Yes, there are some good bulbs, some are not. I have an amber set of decorative incandescent bulbs and patiently waiting for LEDs to do something like it. I have been disappointed with the options.

Induction is very different than old electric. Faster than gas!! Gas stoves also produce really poor indoor air quality. Furnaces can, too. Electric is flat out safer all around.

Blessed to have an electrician for a father in law. He helped us run a 220 to change from a gas to induction cook top and he also helped us install solar panels and an EV charger to boot. Saved us thousands to go the DIY route.

No one is mentioning how poisonous gas stoves are for the home. I used to use the stove with the fan off to boil water for humidity. I bought a CO2 monitor and found that even with the fan on, dangerous off-gases still end up in the house, and I have a chef-level hood.

Reminder, some pans (aluminum, glass, copper) won't work on induction stoves. I'm not anti-induction but factor those upgrades into your plans.

I found it was definitely worth having to change out some of my cookware to go induction. Cast iron still works - check compatibility with a magnet. Anything magnetic will work with induction.

The only "climate-friendly" solution is to reduce our energy consumption. Capitalism won't allow that, so instead we're urged to buy expensive new technology while setting records for CO2 emissions. We can't manufacture our way out of this catastrophe.

Nonsense! All induction stoves are extremely power efficient with close to zero waste heat. Capitalism fueled the market for the new very popular induction cooktops. I run my AC 9 months a year so there is no less wasteful method of cooking than induction and microwave. We did in fact manufacture it

Heat pumps are an excellent investment. Also works as air conditioning in the summer. We installed one last fall. Enbridge gas and the Canadian government offered rebates to offset the cost. Win win.

I strongly suggest that anyone switching to all electric, determine if their home's electrical service can handle the extra load before buying the appliances. The change-over will also likely require running new wire (and probably circuits) for the stove & water heater, especially if they were gas.

As eco as I am gas is still being burned here in OK to make the electric, which is more expensive than if you just use the gas to begin with in your home. Yea we have wind power and that’s great, and we need more solar and other forms of energy production but for most of us it’s not economical ..

Induction is so much better. I use a portable induction while my gas stove sits idle. It heats just and fast and the control of the heat is key to so many foods. Gas get clogs easily and the heat is constantly inconsistent across the pan.

Induction is nearly 100% efficient like a microwave. Instant heat adjustments. But you are limited to magnetic pans that are induction compatible. Gas stoves are bad for your health due to toxic emissions.

Induction hobs are great. Almost ZERO waste heat, a desirable trait any time you are running an AC or you are in hot weather. My 2 burner 1800 watt model has 20 precise power levels for instant changing of power with no cool-down period needed. You have to get rid of all your non-magnetic cookware.
