Ready set is not really right. Trudeau was taken down by his best lieutenant because the polls predicted he’d lose the the conservatives in historic levels. So he announced his retirement to keep the opposition from bringing down his government. Then Trump opened his mouth and said Tarriffs.
Then the Premiers all needed Trudeau because he’s the Trump whisperer who got us through last time. Trudeau, having just announced retirement but still Prime Minister, has become Captain Canada and the public face of our response. Since then his popularity has gone up, basically going from way
Behind in the polls to a dead heat with the conservative leader, who is bootlick long Trump. Meanwhile the polls with Carney as leader, show the Liberals winning, and he hasn’t even been chosen leader yet.
I would expect that after the election, Trudeau may stay on in some capacity, maybe Ambassador? Special envoy for trade? The Premiers, most of them, are not going to want to see him go.
Fundamentally the same. Trudeau's poll numbers were tanking and the writing was very clearly on the wall. He was, actually, a fairly successful pm, but he had to deal with a lot of shit other prime ministers wouldn't (covid, the rise of alt-right sentiment) and seemed out of his depth. ...
... Oddly since resigning, his popularity (and that of the Liberals generally) has really jumped. I think it's a combination of Canadians being galvanized by Trump's threats (and the Conservatives seeming pretty tied to Trump style policies), and Trudeau feeling free to be more forceful.
In Canada, not really. 10 years is kinda the unofficial limit anyway (its just not polite to stay in too long). He stepped down because its time. Also he's not as unpopular as you think. The idiot Cons hate him fervently and loudly, the rest are just ready for a change
Yet if Mr Singh hadn't pulled out of the agreement until the election Mr Trudeau would have had stayed in office and then we would have had a stronger hand until later against Trump.
As do I, but think about all of the things the party has accomplished over the decades. Universal healthcare, Social security (CPP and OAS), free dental care, the beginnings of pharmacare.
Truthfully JT is still very popular in Canada as he should be, but politics will be politics. He is a good man.
We have our own Maple Maga here and my fear is that they will get in now that Mr Trudeau was pushed out. The one good thing Trump has done is unite this country again.

Might be splitting hairs here, but isn't the result the same? "They definitively said they don't like me."
Thanks!
Then Trump got in.
