But overall I try to avoid the use of most animals on set other than dogs who, again, at least on my sets, love performing for treats & pets & praise & interacting with the cast & crew. PS I love cats, but their innate independence makes them hilariously shitty actors.

I once directed a TVC featuring four cats having dinner. Lesson learned. I did cover all the bases and hired a Roto artist and his cats for the shoot. Never has a dolly shot turned into post-zoom so quickly in any of my projects. #postchat

Our two cats follow limited commands. Each know their name and responds when directly reprimanded; the other doesn't pay attention. If I call the boys, they come; when I say "out," they leave a room. "Up" means treats, and they'll go directly to their castles for them. Discipline and love. And food.
