It's interesting that this crushed while so many others have been muted, notably FF16 and TLOU2.

And, yes, I can't imagine an amount that Sony could pay to keep anything else exclusive. They'll likely move heaven and earth to get games on the Switch 2.

You said it sold 4 millions on PS5 back in August. How can 200k on PC smash all expectations? It sold the same on PS5 during the Christmas season. The expectations on PC must be rock bottom. Xbox would be a rounding error.

Yeah I'm hoping like many that Switch 2's jump in tech, while still weaker than contemporaries will be high enough that most SQEX games can shoot for that and get launch parity.

Most people I think are totally fine with the same game but way fuzzier.

Microsoft don't make demands like that -- they might offer to put it in GP, but a publisher can decline. As an aside, a game like FF7 which had PS deal probably has a clause where the game would have to go into PS+ before Game Pass anyway

After last year Sony’s way of signing third party exclusives must surely be over. Technically that doesn’t put them as much of a disadvantage as Xbox when you consider most of what was show at Dev Direct is coming to PS5 too, albeit also Game Pass

I think this specific sku of this specific game is the first time an FF launch has exceeded internal expectations/projections since 15, except possibly a 14 xpac because I don't follow or gossip about those nearly as closely

14 is weird because its massive explosion happened between expansions, largely due to shadowlands faceplanting. Endwalker did exceptionally well, but it was midway through the spike.

(And the crash happened midway after Endwalker, due to its mediocre post launch content)

It will be interesting to see the quality of a multi-platform launch.

I know the pc player base keeps hectoring for it but I always hear so many complaints online about poor pc games with simultaneous launches that I do wonder how wise it is versus focusing on a platform at a time.

PC and PS5 for sure. Xbox yes also because it should be an easy port. Switch 2 … I mean I guess I don’t know how ambitious they’re trying to be with the 3rd title but if it’s gonna be a big thing to port it to that hardware then I’m fine if they just get the game out and work on that later.

We might (quite reasonably) think they are going to struggle to find success, but they have literally committed to next-gen hardware. We've seen ugly public leaks revealing plans for a Steam Deck-esque Xbox OS handheld. They are not exiting for the foreseeable future; they'll be here in 3-4 years.
