No I won't. The pretense did not stop the recent atrocities/landgrabs of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan and Israel, to name a few. They were not put under sanctions, not even censured, because they were convenient for USA. 3 out of 4 are armed by USA.

I recall, quite some time ago now, some Israeli supporting posters saying that Israel needed security from Syria, even if it took armed force, because it's in a constant existential conflict with its neighbors.

Yeah, this strikes me as a mistake. The new HTS-led government is, I get it, not ideal from an Israeli security perspective, but they're a better partner in the area than anyone else; bombing them out seems like a mistake.

The new Syrian government only complained when the IDF blew up a DDR meeting and killed a local mayor and 2 soldiers earlier this year. Like, that’s the level of leeway they’re giving to the Israelis so they don’t get bombed.

The only shooting incident I can remember ironically came from a small pro Iranian militia which fired a couple of rounds at a checkpoint. Unironically, the Syrian government most aggressive response so far is just physically blocking Israeli movement inside Syria proper.

Per the Guardian, this is accompanied by a demand that the Syrian government not station any troops or equipment south of Damascus, lest it be fired upon. Essentially a demand that the approaches to the capital be demilitarized and undefended.
