They were where I directed my attention when Phish stopped in 2000. Early 2000s Cheese was amazing. They’ve really tightened up the last few years. There was a while where it definitely seemed like they were just kind of going through the motions because there were mortgages to pay.
Always will have a place in my heart for SCI but I haven't seen them in awhile. Used to go to a lot of shows late 90s/early 2000s. Fun times - but the fanbase can be a little annoying at times.
Yeah there was some disjointed crew of like 100 people in one area I lived for awhile who were all SCI heads, and I knew a lot of them but wasn't really in the crew either. Always seemed extremely fake like they wanted to appear all hippy/altruistic but they were really selfish dicks
I'm here with you. Saw them a bunch around that same time too. The anti Semitism was a big turnoff for me too. They rarely play where I live and I'm sure as hell not going to pay for a hotel room to see them.
Yeah, they still throw down. We got lucky and got a two night New Year’s Eve run in Portland, Oregon this year which I was very happy to attend and sleep in my own bed each night after.
My ex husband used to sit in with LOS. His band toured similar places, open for them in the early 90's. He played cello with them on Highway Song a few times. I have hot springed in Oregon with them. Tried to convince him to join them lol.
Saw em a bunch then. 12/31/00 at the Portland Convention Center sticks out. Their production was so involved they missed the actual NYE countdown by like 20 mins lol. I was so used to Phish’s surgical precision I kept looking around at other ppl like “y’all, wtf?” No one cared lol
Yeah that checks out lol. They were selling these dope batik shirts that I couldn’t afford but groundscored one in the bathroom and was PUMPED #mollyshrapnel
I always dug them just fine but they never quite cranked the bass the way I wanted them to 🤷♂️ super fun
and talented group. Oh I’m sorry, are the jamband fans having too much fun being quirky for you lol
It's funny, I was thinking about a similar response, incorporating Steve Albini's thoughts on the hi-hat, which I don't agree with, but when I think about SCI, it makes me reconsider his approach to high octave sounds. Fair cop, I also like SCI, and I have a similar theory about Blues Traveler.
Keith lives near by. I was fortunate to give him a ride to the airport before tour started last summer. 45 minutes of incredible conversation about all the things.
I saw them a bunch during the first phish hiatus. Actually really enjoyed the shows. Then apparently they were completely removed from my mind for the last 20 years till I saw this
I was out there for the big summer classic to catch UM’s first sets there. Cheese was awful and some dude was smoking meth behind us during their set lol
Outrageous that there are people out there who have the audacity to talk about Rivertrance like it's anything other than the high point of the Western musical tradition. I am impervious to SCI hate, I know what I am and so do they
Didn’t the drummer have some very ignorant opinions? I’m not googling to find out but seem to remember some nazi-leaning shit a while back that led to society flipping on them.
Totally agree. Their techno phase was a big turn off for a lot of people I think but for a long time now they’ve been putting out some incredible stuff. Also say what you will but personally they’ve got a very unique sound still

Drew Emmitt has that high lonesome sound that I love.
On another note, do you ever go to The Laurelhurst?
I dig that spot, always good live music
Travis was/is such a monster.
They are still Gouda in my book.
Excited to see them tomorrow for like the first time in 6-7 years
and talented group. Oh I’m sorry, are the jamband fans having too much fun being quirky for you lol
Telluride 2000 and the Holiday shows in Boulder are great memories
so many great moments in my life were with this band… but sure sometimes they’re great, other times they have been just ok.
