Not sure it IS hyperbolic, with their actions as extreme they are -- the seeming exaggerations do actually fit the behavior being described. Maybe explain even as we choose our words why those words are accurate and appropriate. When they lie & cry "hyperbolic!," we re-clarify what we actually said.
