Would a person in a craft passing by Io see the eruption as blue-colored in this manner? Or is the eruption/gas emission colored via a lens or other filtration method in order to be able to capture it in photograph?
Sometimes photos like this of such bizarre whole worlds send a shiver up and down my spine. I hope we can make more sense of the universe before I'm gone.

I remember doing a “report” (aka an informative essay) about Io in Jr High. I got an A and genuinely found the info I research back in 1980-something very interesting. I’m so glad Galileo is out there gathering more info!
