Are you still talking about the Galileo mission? Yes, I did some research on it. The launch first began in 1989, it was a 14 year mission, NASA deliberately ended that mission in 2003, when they sent that probe directly into Jupiter’s atmosphere. Probe Galileo got crushed by the pressure.
It doesn’t have a surface. Scientists think that the dense central core may be surrounded by a layer of metallic hydrogen, with another layer of molecular hydrogen on top.
