Depends on the contract, but with an author as big as Hissrich is and the *long, long* association he has with CD Projekt, I'd be amazed if he doesn't have a veto clause in there somewhere.

There's no "rules."

Even in the books, all that's said is that they've only ever done the procedure on boys, and even with an experienced performer of whatever it is, the mortality rate is still horrendous.

(But Ciri is the most important person in the series, so OF COURSE she'd live).

Yeah, it's basically in-universe socio-cultural gender bias + lack of conditions (material, personnel) to put Ciri through the process.

The games already played fast and loose with the book lore in several places, so them finding a way to make Ciri a "full" witcher isn't too out of left field.

Ciri was basically a secondary main character at times, both in the games and the books. For all we know, he's all for this new direction. If I recall, The Witcher 1 starts at a point in the books where Geralt died, anyway. So it's all new canon that borrows heavily from the lore.

hissrich is the showrunner of the netflix show, sapkowski is the author of the books and he does not have a great relationship with CDPR (mostly over money and publishers selling his books with covers based on game art or even screenshots)

i dont think he has that sort of veto, but even if he did..

Hissrich is the writer of the Netflix series. Sapkowski is the writer of the novels. He famously has a very poor relationship with CDPR because he made a bad decision to sell the rights for a lump sum. He sued CDPR and they settled, citing wanting to stay amicable, but I doubt they're in contact
