Did ChatGPT write that for you? AI has SOME very specific things it can be useful for. But it's lazy, not intelligent. It just swallows what it's fed and vomits up an anodyne result that is often completely wrong--or it vacuums up real art by real people and spews out plastic looking dreck.
AI was recently used to post fake outrage so giving this tool to people who are trying to control the stupids, who are clearly easily duped, is a bad idea imo. And the energy from this project can cause real harm to the already dying planet. But yeah, as long as you don’t have to write emails or w/e
its amazing to me how so many people use chat gpt like google even though chat gpt is wrong 90% of the time, its only a matter of time before a mf makes a bomb by accident or something when he asks chat gpt for cake recepy. its not even more advanced as clippy or bonzi buddy
there’s two things about LLMs to me that are genuinely scary: the potential to further fragment consensus reality and to talk people with schizoid mental disorders into doing really bad things. these do not seem to be the things that people talk about being scared of tho
on the topic of schizoid threats, I think the tech is a pretty low risk for them doing dangerous things, I think it's more likely they'll hold a strange belief they learned from it, but not any less likely than a stupid person using the tech who isn't schizo
I agree. I simply reckon that these fears hinge on people’s overall trust in LLMs capabilities. The scarier the user thinks it is, the more susceptible they are. Therefore I choose to minimize ChatGPTs risk so hopefully folks take it less seriously
ChatGPT uses a lot of power to change my e-mail drafts from "send me form 2-A like I told you fourteen fucking times or I'll roll it up and jam it in your urethra" into "Hi! It looks like you sent the wrong form again. Can you send me a Form 2-A, as previously requested?" and it's saved my career.
If I'm commissioning a work of art or document, I would like specific parameters met. AI cannot meet basic specific parameters because it cannot count those parameters
Stop blaming people for the shortcomings of a dogshit technology
How am I blaming people? You pick the tool appropriate to the job. If it's something that requires verbal reasoning, then an LLM might be a suitable shout. If you want to do calculations you can use a calculator or an appropriate programming language. Simple.
If you are generating a text output, being able to meet a wordcount should be bare minimum stuff, as should being able to self-assess the number of words in an output accurately.
There was bag of this donated to the shelter we were at and when I would go to feed my dogs I'd stand there staring at it and trying to understand if it was just made of horse meat or what.
AI's power and fear of it's always been rooted in its ability to track & influence, remove human oversight, push efficiency too far, suck soul out of things.
Modern day isn't far from our fears 80 years ago. Turns out AI didn't need to actually be super smart to do all that cause people are dumb.
yes very. Was wondering to what that garbled signature at the bottom left resolved, but i guess we'll never know. Well, if you want something just like that but with fur texture and that furry touch✨—we can tell when it's not there—i do them for $85.
The negative environmental impact of their energy requirements and cooling needs for data centers are formidable enough to accelerate the demise of the human species on this planet--at a critical threshold where climate change is fucking our shit exponentially.
It's not scary in its current iteration for sure (powerful mostly depends on what you mean, but, for a generic end user, I agree). What's scary to me is how alignment is already becoming a relevant issue, and we're letting shitty tech bros determine our tech development trajectory.

Like say the number of limbs on a figure or how many of an item are present or how many words are in a text output.

I honestly think people just like having something to freak out over. Our instincts refuse to believe we are safe so we invent imaginary monsters.
And then part of us goes, "Phew! Found them!".
Cute, ain't he? :)
