This was a tough one for me. Helldivers II brought me so much fun, but there was something about Mario and Luigi Brothership that really stuck with me this year. It really did take too long to kick in, but once it did it definitely became my favorite playthough. Until i played through Indiana Jones.

The ultimate 2024 VG memory was listening to the show all year and hearing @tlfoster.bsky.social’s Metaphor journey go from, “that trailer looked cool I guess” to “the demo was pretty great” to “game of the year and one of the best games I’ve ever played and my favorite villain ever.”

All year it’s been Helldivers II. It is a mix of silly (from starship troopers satire to crazy ragdoll physics) and intense, well-paced, challenging action. All the while always being fun, never punishing, and always had me going back for one more dive.

Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth. The characterization is above and beyond and the game is just packed with so much fun/crazy stuff outside the main story path.
