I think the answer is there are no service workers helped by this plan, and existing transportation surveys say that low income peoples transportation needs would be better served by bus improvements done regionally, particularly BRT

why one or the other? what specific BRT plan is better for service workers at businesses on the beltline than light rail connected to the existing streetcar/MARTA train grid? If the claim is that beltline rail alone won't solve Atlanta transportation, no one project can.

Equity also can't mean transit being exclusively for low income people. Even ignoring the negative externalities of driving (if hypothetically high income people never travelled at all) the political reality is that services only for low income people will always be politically low priorities.

a broad BRT network that meets the material travel needs of low and moderate income people at an excellent price is equitable. far more equitable than an expensive, gentrifying fixed rail that would primarily serve the needs of upper middle class people who tend to drive anyways.

what makes light rail more gentrifying than BRT? Is it that superior service quality will attract would-be drivers to rail, while the BRT plans will continue the existing dynamics of MARTA ridership? equity does entail increasing the mode share of transit v driving for trips in Atlanta.

"services for low income people will always be politically low priorities" but we have a mayor who is willing to make it a high priority. Good for him! I support Mayor Dickens 100% on this.
