Dear Rachel Reeves, JUST BE HONEST WITH US. Things haven't worked out as you hoped
Like all good generals know a plan only lasts until first contact with the enemy. That's when prediction crashes into reality. Only an idiot would choose to lose a war just so you can stick to the plan

Only it's nonsense.
Business is simple. If you can make a profit, you'll stay. It's far better for Amazon, for example, to make a smaller profit in the UK than to leave.

As for the argument that 45% is already high, let's do some maths...
/2
From that you pay rent (av. £1362) & energy (£144).
£1537 - 1362 - 144 = £32/month for EVERYTHING ELSE.
/3
On a £1m salary, you pay around 45% income tax/NI. We'll leave council tax, rent & energy the same because they are personal choices on how you spend your money.
/4
We should, however, clamp down on tax avoidance significantly.
Economics is a difficult game, and admittedly, I am not an expert in it.
