Folha de São Paulo did it a few years back, by 7% iirc. But i think it was to get fewer stories in the same physical space as readership dropped.

And I find the typical font size in both the UK and the US bigger than mainstream Indian English ones (which are typically about a tiny 10 pt, with captions even smaller). So an even more pertinent question among Indian newspapers.

I think most of the effort here goes into clarifying typefaces and printing processes? I remember the Times last time they updated their font talked about small changes that made it more legible, and the time before that (late 90s?) they wrote about improved printing processes giving sharper print.

I worked on a newspaper website years ago and they proposed to redesign incl increase the font size. Opinions were asked (no idea why I didn’t read it and staff aren’t a good sample anyway) and I said something like um it looks tacky. They put it live and traffic shot up;)
